This batrery gives my camera more shooting time with the AA battery. I do not need to worry about battery dead problem. It is a must for serious photographer on a major porject.

5 Stars I use on D300s and D700
Lets me use the same EN-EL4 battery as my D3s so I only need one type and one charger. The AA battery tray was the real reason that I purchased this. You can’t always find a place to charge a battery but they sell AA batteries at the Timbuktu Gas & Grocery, so you will always have the power you need, when you need it. This is especially true when you need a backup battery but didn’t have time to charge the thing. A set of lithium AAs will store for seven years and always be ready when you need them. Max frames per second are available on AAs too as well as when using the EN-EL4 battery.

Removable when you don’t need the portrait grip or additional battery capacity to keep camera size and weight to a minimum. As sturdy as the camera body and a very good fit. Certainly better than the old L shaped MB-series (MB-D100 & 200 especially) which were impossible to pack and a real pain to install.

This battery grip is a great optional gear for Nikon D700 as it allows to shoot at 8fps with EN-EL4a battery for action photography. Solid construction and fits well onto D700.

Feels good, widely expands the potential of my D300, well built. I wish it would feel a bit more integrated with the D300, and be attached a bit tighter. Also, it would be nice not to feel the fastening disc when you grab it by the grip. But this feeling seems to cost more than twice than what I paid for my D300.

5 Stars Great for Bringing the Kitchen Sink (well, everything but…)
I bought this to have a way to bring a lot of equipment to family gatherings and a place to keep it all organized at home as well. I have been very pleased with both the construction / quality and look of the bag. Here is what I am carrying:

Of all the above, the 70-200 L is the largest beast. I configured the compartment dividers so that there is a large open area which is closest to you when you open the bag with 3 vertical compartments above. I put the camcorder in the leftmost one above and the Sigma in the right. I can then put the XSI in either attached to the 70-200 (there is room to the left of the lens) or the 24-70 by putting the lens in the middle slot with camera attached (the top of the bag still closes easily). I hope this makes sense and include this description mainly since I was very interested in whether there is a way to configure the bag to do this.

Overall, I am very pleased with the bag as it serves its purpose well and is well made.

4 Stars Good Value, Sturdy Bag
Very good for the price of under $50. I have EOS 7D with one zoom lens, one fisheye, and one 50mm prime. They all fit very nicely now, but need to adjust a little if i get an external flash. Velcro on two sides of the flap are almost useless when the bag is heavy. Zipper would’ve been a lot better. Need to open the top flap in order to get to front accessory compartment, which is a little annoying. Once I add more lenses and save some $, I will probably buy a different bag, but for the price, can’t ask for more.

5 Stars I am Pleased With This Huge and Sturdy Camera Bag
Even though I own a Nikon D5000 DSLR, I still ended up buying the Canon 200DG instead of a bag made by Nikon. I am very happy with this bag, and would recommend it to other DSLR owners. First, let me list good reasons to get this bag:

1. It is huge, at least for my needs as a non-professional. It holds my DSLR with 18-55 mm lens attached, my 55-200 mm lens, a lens hood, lens cleaner, lens cleaning paper, the D5000 instruction manual, two filters, battery charger, battery charger cord, SD card case, and other cables that came with the camera. In fact everything that came with my camera kit (minus the DVDs) easily fits in this bag. And even with all of these items in the bag, there is still room for plenty more (including another lens). My brother bought a Nikon DSLR camera bag, and even though it is slightly cheaper, the 200DG has more space.

2. It is secure and sturdy. It is padded and thick all around, and so sturdy that it looks like it could shield the camera from damage if dropped from a reasonable distance (not that I am going to purposely test this hypothesis any time soon). The straps are strong, and it can be carried either by the handles or using the shoulder strap. Even though the top of the bag is secured by Velcro instead of a zipper, I have been impressed with both the strength and convenience of the Velcro. It stays shut firmly, but easily opens when needed.

3. The price is right. I compared other bags and book-bags for DSLR cameras, and the price of this one was just right for the size. I just don’t believe the much more expensive bags offer that much more space and security for the price. Of course, I say this as a non-professional who does not need a larger bag.

The only major drawback I can think of is that the Canon logo is on the bag. I do not say this because I am a Nikon owner (I think both companies make great cameras), but rather, because it makes the bag a target of thieves, since the Canon logo on a bag this size basically says “expensive camera inside.” However, this is something I can deal with, especially since I keep the shoulder strap securely next to my body at all times when using the bag. Another minor quibble I have is that there is only one zipper on the compartment on the front of the bag. It seems more intuitive to me to have two zippers there, so they can meet in the middle.

Overall, this bag meets my needs, and I would recommend it to others.

Wow, totally dig this flash! After using the built in flash since owning my D40 (& not being happy with the results alot of times!) for 2 yrs, this is so refreshing & inspiring! 4 Stars Fantastic lighting upgrade
I have have been using this unit for 2 weeks and am impressed with the improvement offered with indirect light bouncing off nearby surfaces vs the on-board unit. The SB-400′s capability to aim the flash in multiple angles is not thoroughly detailed in store or official documentation when it is easily its greatest feature. I sometimes wish I whent with a flash with a bit more horsepower and twist aim, but I figured learning the art was more important than the gadget. Overall a simple no frills great improvement from my D5000′s on board flash.

This add-on flash is compact and works flawlessly on Nikon camera with iTTl systems. Using the built-in camera flash will consume your cameras’ battery life a lot faster this possible causing you to lose that perfect moment. There are huge benefits of bounce over compared to the direct flash on the Nikon model and body you own, maybe overwhelming. This unit gets great reviews for its size and its multi angel bounce, this unit will bounce off high ceilings and distant walls but it’s great for many occasions and engagements.

Overall by using this unit instead of the built-in flash of one’s camera, you will get more shots from the camera since its power source is two independent AA batteries and not the camera. It’s compact it’s great for its size ability and price.

I got this to go with my Nikon D40. It is an improvement from the built-in flash for sure, but not as good and versatile as the Nikon SB-600 Speedlight Flash for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras. I ended up returning this one and buying the SB-600 instead.

Pros for the SB-400 are size and price – best for portability. It is definitely an improvement over the built-in flash for light quality and ceiling bounce.

Biggest weakness is that I can’t use it for portrait photography bouncing off the ceiling. Please see review of Stroboframe Press-T Flash Rotating Bracket for details.

I was worried about buying an offbrand grip for my Rebel XSI but am very glad I did. Saved quite a bit of money compared to the BG-E5 and I have essentially the same product, just missing the canon logo and the wheel next to the shutter isn’t as comfortable as I’d like.

Makes my Rebel XSI so much more comfortable to use and hold, adds another heft/weight to make it feel more professional.

I received this battery grip as a gift today. Installation for me was a breeze and I had it on and working on the camera in a matter of minutes! It feels solid and has the overall same feel that the OEM grip provides. Overall I would say that this grip will make a huge difference in the pleasure of handling your camera.

5 Stars A no-brainer upgrade!
Lets face it… the Canon Rebel series camera bodies are tiny! Adding a battery grip gives your camera a bunch more/needed real estate. It gives you a better grip on the camera, which I feel adds stability to help take care of some of the camera shake, as well as the beauty of adding a comfortable shutter button in portrait position.

I am glad I came across the Opteka battery grip line, a great alternative to the Canon grip. The typical reviews here of this grip pretty much explain my experience with it.

It comes with two batteries (Optekas version of Canons LP-E5 camera battery) and a charger. A 6AA adapter is included as well but I can’t get past the convenience of using 2 batteries instead of fumbling with 6. The cartridge holding the batteries in the grip has a good securing latch that is only disengaged by a pulling out a lever and then twisting it. The on/off switch on the grip controls the buttons on the grip and not power to the camera (I keep it on at all times). I also keep a tripod quick release plate screwed into my grip with minimal effects.

I have noticed that one of my Opteka batteries will not seat right on occasion (reason for a small discount on “battery life”) in the battery grip cartridge, which will result in a half battery charge indication (as if you are operating on only one battery in the grip… which you can do). I have concluded the connection problem is on the battery itself having shallower terminals than the other batteries I own, and not the grip. Defective battery?.. I am OK with it because Opteka batteries are so inexpensive.

I use my camera in rugged places for work and play, so I have put a good amount of stress on it. The grips rubber near the shutter release is pulling away and high-wear areas on the rubber are starting to get smooth… I still think this grip is a great deal that being said.

Just buy it already… and enjoy.

4 Stars Bigger than I thought but great!
A battery grip with 2 extra batteries (and a AA battery tray) for this price is a no brainer. The batteries are 1800mAh vs the standard 1080mAh and you get 2! The battery grip is alot bigger than I thought. The control wheel next to the shutter release button is a little recessed and not as nice as the one on the actual camera. Other than that it’s a great piece of equipment, especially for those longer trips or taking a lot of video with live view. Works perfect on my T1i. No issues.

My motivation for buying this grip was threefold – add substance to camera (Canon T1i), extend battery life and make portrait photography easier. All three have been achieved with this grip that so far has been just what I was looking for. On the whole, it’s a great deal.

5 Stars No Regrets
I knew I was going to need more than one battery to feed the camera when I go shooting. I was tired of tracking battery life and having to swap batteries mid-session. I was uncomfortable about the possibility of running both batteries down and not having an alternative.

The Battery Grip solves all that. It holds two batteries and comes with an insert that holds AA Batteries (I bought some lithium ones) so you can shoot at least twice as long before needing to recharge, AND you can use readily available AA Batteries if you hit the wall and need to keep shooting.

The extra features of this grip include the second set of controls on the side so that when the camera is in vertical you can still shoot with all your controls handy – and no contortion. Second, the base cover for the battery compartment on the camera stows inside the Battery Grip where you pretty much can’t lose it and where it is readily available if you need to swap off the grip and go back to using the battery inside the camera (some lenses on a tripod won’t tolerate the Battery Grip because of fit issues with the tripod).

Does this add to the size of the camera. DOH! For me that’s not an issue. I have really big hands and it actually helps me better manage the camera. But if you’re trying to travel light, you will find that from a size point of view, it’s a trade-off. For me, there is no doubt this was the way to go. Now when I climb Mt Fuji…we’ll see… But I will still have extra batteries!

An absolute must have accessory especially when using the 70-200mm 2.8/f IS USM or larger lenses. The extra weight helps balance the larger lenses and the extra controls make multiple portrait shots more comfortable. Having the option to use AA batteries although not preferred is nice as well.

Battery life excellent, additional grip space a plus and having the additional controls on the grip makes vertical shooting easier. i bought this when there weren’t any knockoff battery grips. if i buy another 5d II in the future, i’m probably getting a plastic knockoff grip for my 2nd camera.

the way i shoot, i HAVE to have a battery grip. i don’t mind turning my wrist, but the time it saves me later straightening out all of my pictures makes it well worth it. plus, who can’t use the extra battery life?

other than that, everything works exactly how it’s supposed to. the grip matches up perfectly with the 5d mk II’s body and stays tight/looks great. every once in a while i’ll set it on my lap and accidentally take a few pictures or accidentally hit the shutter button while reviewing pictures…but all user error.

i rated this a 4 because it’s a little expensive. granted, i paid $300 for mine and now you can get them almost 20% cheaper than that. if you can’t afford it or don’t want to…read reviews, you’ll see there are some very good 3rd party plastic grips for the 5d II and decide for yourself if it’s worth the extra $160 or not.

I’ve put a battery pack/vertical grip on every camera I’ve owned (film advance with 35mm). I like this model best. It allows you to shoot with 2 of the Nikon rechargeable batteries giving you twice the power and also allows you to view the current charge capacity of each via the menu/LCD screen. You can also use AA batteries but The “Magic Lantern Guide” recommends using the Nikon batteries for best performance and I agree. In addition to providing a better grip it also provides an additional shutter release button on the side when turned for vertical photos.

If there is a negative it would be that the grip adds a bit more weight but that is not an issue to me as the D80/D90 is smaller/lighter than full frame DSLRs anyway.

5 Stars It Delivers
I am thoroughly pleased with the MB-D80, which I use on the D90. I like the convenience of carrying both batteries so I never need to worry about running down or worse yet running out. The battery insert that comes with this product to use regular type batteries is a plus, as I always carry a pack for the SB-900 Flash and in a pinch could use it for the camera or the obvious if you are away and needed to power up in an emergency any local store should have batteries. That being said after only a few days of using this product I was surprisingly acclimated to it. For portrait orientation it is fantastic, and is arguably the biggest pro of this product. It does completely away with the awkwardness of pushing buttons in portrait orientation for a camera designed by default for landscape orientation. I didn’t really notice a difference in button tension, etc as some have mentioned – maybe after a break in period that will change. But seamless transition for landscape to portrait. On the down size it does increase overall bulk and weight. However, in the same breath the camera is very, very well balanced and you only notice it as I’ve been shooting without it for over a year. Now that I’ve been using this product for a few months I hardly notice that it is any different. It is also very easy to put on or take off – less than a minute. Very pleased with this product.

5 Stars Nikon MB-80 Excellent!!!
The Nikon MB-80 works perfect for my D80, I’ve haven’t had any issues. I do photography and when I’m shooting hundreds of photos this has become really handy. I totally recommended for those that shoot for long periods of time with your D80 or if you just need an extra battery and don’t want to be swapping batteries back and forth this is perfect.

5 Stars works for what it was purchased for
Purchased the battery pack to get better fps on my D80. The D80 is not the best sports camera unless you’re outside in natural sunlight. The battery pack does help, getting you more fps. Overall, I would recommend a different camera if sports is your shooting preference, but if you already have the D80 and want to shoot sports, this will help.

5 Stars I was going to buy a third party battery grip, BUT…
I recently borrowed my father in law’s Nikon D80 with the MB-D80 mounted. Now that I just ordered my own Nikon D90, I definitely needed a battery grip. Even my old Nikon Coolpix 8800 has a Nikon battery grip. I always like the extra battery life and also makes gripping the camera more comfortable, plus the portrait mode shutter button is great, if you shoot that orientation a lot, which I do.

At first, I felt that the MB-D80 is a bit pricey for what it is, which is probably the case, so I started checking out all the other third party grips. Most of those third party grip reviewers stated that most are well made, but the plastic housing seems a little thinner that the Nikon, but that’s not a big deal to me, since I never bang my equipment around. I finally was just about to settle on the Ziekos for $60 Zeikos ZE-NBG90 Battery Power Grip for Nikon D80 & D90, which looks almost identical to the Nikon, but than one reviewer mentioned that the grip’s tripod mount looks sturdy and “should” be ok. So, I started thinking, I’m trying to save $90, camera is $1100, plus a $500 flash, maybe a $500 zoom lens later on, is it worth risking $1600+ over $90, HELL NO, so I changed my mind and went with the MB-D80 instead.

Without this battery grip, when the camera is hanging around your neck and by your stomach, it is off balanced, where it is tilted with the lens pointing down at a 45% angle, the bottom front edge of the camera body resting against your belly. With this grip and batteries, at least with the kit lens, it will be leveled horizontally, the back of the camera will be flat against your belly, making it more comfortable, when it is hanging there, while you are walking around.

I have been buying all the battery grips for my Canon cameras (10D, 20D, 40D, and now 7D). This is the latest grip I bought for my new 7D. It was also the first accessory I purchased.

Pros:

* Overall GREAT accessory – very useful

* Significantly improves handling and feel of camera

* High build quality and feel

* Improved battery life with two LP-E6 lithium batteries

* Can take 6x AA batteries instead of the two LP-E6 batteries

* Includes a place in the grip to put the battery door so it doesn’t get lost

* Well designed with control buttons and knobs

* Makes you and your camera look like a PRO!

Cons:

* It costs a bit of money, but considering the price of a 7D, it worth the added cost

* (minor) Shutter button does not have the same feel as the one on the body – it’s easier to activate/more sensitive

I love Battery Grips. Not just for the batteries, not just for the vertical shooting controls, but for the extra firmness it adds to my camera. Feels better in my hand. I also have the Wrist Strap which compliments this very well.

The only downside is I have to lay the camera on it’s side, since the camera will no longer sit on it’s bottom. (It’s lens pulls it forward.) But lying 90 degrees counter-cockwise solves this very effectively.

5 Stars Completes an already great camera
Why would you need a battery grip? When over a year ago I purchased the battery grip for my 450D (“XSi) I was surprised by how much more I got out of my camera by simply adding a battery grip. It’s not the fact that you have twice the amount of battery power – simply getting a second battery pack will do that, and since the grip comes without any batteries, you’ll have to purchase that anyway.

No, the best thing about a battery grip is that it literally allows you to get a better grip on your camera. Now, the 7D is somewhat larger than the 450D, and thus this may not be as important to people with smaller hands. But there are more than one reason to add the grip to the 7D: it transforms this great camera into a truly outstanding one:

- first of all, the grip significantly enhances the 7D’s handling. Since it is added to the bottom of the camera, it adds some height, making the camera fit your right hand much better. But that’s just the beginning. The grip has near-perfect molding (at least for my hand), making holding the 7D so much more comfortable.

- I shoot lots of portraits, and the grip adds shutter button, and main camera controls to the portrait orientation. Being able to hold the camera upright comfortably alone is worth the price of this grip. Again, the mold for this orientation is near perfect.

- (this may look obvious at first, but is often overlooked) you can remove the grip. The reason why I point this out is because with the grip installed, the 7D is very similar in size to the 1D. But if for some reason size or bulk is at a premium, you can take the grip off – something that is impossible with the 1D

- The grip is by no means light, and adds almost 50% of weight to the camera. This is a mixed blessing. The added bulk is noticeable, and on longer field excursions may add some discomfort. On the other hand, it balances the camera better with many of the heavier lenses. The added bulk will prevent you from shooting single-handedly in most situations, as steadying the camera with a mounted L lens now requires significant strength. That being said, the added bulk also makes it less susceptible to small movements, something I discovered to my advantage when shooting with a (non-IS assisted) macro lens.

Energy-wise, the grip is quite cleverly engineered: you can either load one or two battery packs into the grip, and the packs do not have to be charged evenly. You can, therefore, simply take a pack from the grip, load it into the camera, and discard the grip. After a while you can then reload the slightly more drained pack into the grip, and continue shooting with the grip. You can also replace the packs with 6 AA batteries for emergencies. Be carful, though – AA batteries get drained significantly faster than a normal battery pack, and the battery display will not correctly reflect charge status when you use AA.

The grip mounts from below into the 7D’s battery bay and tripod mount. The tripod mount is replicated on the bottom of the grip, so you don’t lose mountability with the grip installed. Unlike the BG-E5 (the grip for the EOS 450) this grip has much better weather sealing, making me much more comfortable using the 7D in weather. Also like the E5, this grip’s ‘On/Off’ switch does not control power but activates and de-activates the additional (portrait orientation) controls. Battery Pack are conveniently loaded from the back, and do not require a magazine like in the BG-E5. AA batteries do need to be inserted into a magazine first, though.

Although near perfect, the are some minor quibbles I’ve found:

- there is no way to charge the whole grip with batteries loaded. You have to take the packs out, charge them individually, and then put them back into the grip. Since you can use the grip with only one pack installed this is an inconvenienca rather than annoyance, but still…

- the grip cannot provide power to external flashes. If there is one thing Canon should improve than it is this. I do realize that this would require re-designing the grip – but having a flash feed from the grip would be a godsend, as the batteries in the flash unnecessarily increase bulk.

- the grip’s shutter button seems more sensitive than the one on my 7D, causing me to accasionally shoot where I wanted to aquire lock. I would have preferred if both shutters felt the same.

- A battery charge tester in the grip that is usable without turning on the camera (or for that matter: without being installed) would be a welcome addition (the camera *will* tell you the remaining charge)

Summary:

The battery grip turns the already great 7D into an exceptional camera. Especially if you shoot portraits a lot, this grip will immediately let you wonder how you ever got by without it. Although the improvements in handling are not as dramatic as with the BG-E5 (for the EOS 450/500), I feel it is still significant to warrant purchase. As a ‘bonus’ feature you get the option of doubling battery power, and even use AA batteries in an emergency. As a whole, I recommend this battery grip to anyone who wants to get more out of their (already great) 7D.

5 Stars Double your battery time and easier vertical shots!!!!
I had the sister unit to this for my 50D and just upgraded to the 7D. This is almost an identical unit to the last one I had and it works great just like my other one. Get this grip if you have massive hands like I do as it really helps you handle the camera better plus adds the fact you have vertical shot buttons and so much longer battery life. I am no professional but it would always seem like the batteries were dead or close to dead. Not anymore. I charge the batteries every once and a while and I’m good to go for a long time.

On top of all this you can also power your camera with AA batteries as it has a holster that goes into the grip rather than the actual Canon battery packs that cost a fortune. Go buy some rechargeable batteries and your set.

This is an excellent addition to the Canon Xsi camera, it makes it much easier to hold the camera, especially in portrait view.Has a handy hidden storage place for the battery lid that you have to remove to fit the unit.

I bought this grip hoping to improve how the small Rebel feels. Like others who have written before, it totally changed the way my camera feels. My pinky has somewhere to go now, instead of dangling from the bottom of the camera. I also like that in a vertical position there is a shutter button and other controls because now my hand doesn’t have to reach the shutter button on the camera in an awkward position. And finally, it helps the consumer-level camera feel like a pro-sumer camera because it looks bigger and feels heavier. Oh, and the battery life is great, too.

5 Stars Canon Battery Grip
I purchased this item with two Canon batteries and a remote. The grip itself is awesome. I love the shutter release option when turnes portrait. I love the ability to have an additional battery charged to give me longer shooting times for weddings. I also like the ability to have the back-up tray loaded with Energizer Ultimate Lithium AA batteries for a quick change out. I however have never had to use the backup with the dual batteries loaded. There are other grip brands out there, but you have to read closely, not all come with the extra AA battery tray, they have it as an ‘add-on’ with of course an add-on price. Amazon was fairly competitive, but check around on price with shipping (as well as cash back options). The ‘no name’ brands are much cheaper and are available at even Wal-Mart. But if you want to stay with the Canon brand shop prices for the best deal.

5 Stars Nice grip for my XSi
I actually got the battery grip because the existing door on the camera was not staying closed, so the camera was turning off until I realized that the door was popping open. The installation of the grip solved that problem. I also added the second battery and have not had to charge either one since I installed the grip.

The grip makes the camera look like a bigger professional level camera, makes turning and holding the camera for portraits much easier.

I’ve bought this camera recently and I love it. I have only two gripes, it uses AA batteries vs. charger and you have to use SD cards, as internal storage is pathetic.

The camera shoots excellent images and does what it is supposed to do excellently. Video is also good.

Overall I’m satisfied with my purchase and would recommend it for anyone looking for an inexpensive camera.

Very good product. I used in my canon sx20is camera. I took almost over 300 picture and 7min video. I still have 50% battery life. Good about this charger is you can charge in your car as well.

2 Stars Was defective out of the box. Only one side charges 2 batteries.
On first usage, I noticed the next morning that only one pair of batteries showed a green light. I tested all four and it seemed like they were all charged, but the charge didn’t hold when I tried to use them in my camera about a week later. Nimh batteries are supposed to keep their charge much longer. I got this at special pricing (around $6 or $7) due to my camera purchase, so I didn’t bother sending it back at any additional cost.
