3 Stars Good for outdoors… I’ts an OK camera not an amazing one
I bought the New A 1100 IS because for being stupid I just gave away my A740 which I loved… I needed to have something portable and easy to carry around. So I decided I wanted to try this little one and take it with me to Italy because I didn’t want to walk around with the big SLR.

So I have to say is not bad if the weather conditions help with ntural light. On cloudy days the image quality is not the best, but in sunny days the pictures come out beautifully. The camera can be really slow in low light conditions and even that it has an image stabilization if you move a bit the image comes out blurry. It has no super macro setting like the A 470, but the macro setting is not bad. This camera eats the batteries really fast, it works better with rechargeable batteries, Other wise be ready to change batteries every 30 minutes. The indoors setting works ok. The view finder is good to have but if you use lots of zoom the picture comes out diferently than what you see through the view finder, so be careful with that.. I would say this is an OK camera, not an amazing camera.

In general I was more happy with my A 470 I shoulded not give it away!!!

5 Stars What a great camera!
Gave this to my wife earlier this year. She is using it constantly and it takes great pictures.

Pro’s: Takes great pictures, even in low light. Super detail.

Con’s: It takes about a second for the focus to settle, If you just mash the button, you get and out of focus picture.

I’d still rate it as an excellent camera since most of the competition also has this usability flaw.

4 Stars Canon PowerShot A1100IS
Good Camera for the money. Pictures OK, a little on the flat side, could be a little more vivid, more contrast. Dose pretty good with kids (fewer blurred shots). Battery life seems a little short (Uses cheap AA Rechargeable though). Fits in your pocket!

5 Stars Excellent buy – You cannot go wrong with it.
I recently got this camera to gift it to my sister. While I got a chance to play with it I could not stop short of exclaiming Wow’s.

I regularly use my DSLR, but the ease-of-use provided by this camera has got me into thinking of buying one for myself.

Though Canon stopped providing Manual exposure controls Av, Tv, M, … on their lower-end point-and-shoots the pictures still come out pretty good.

There is a Program Exposure feature which can be played with to your liking.

The optical IS is a boon and I have come to appreciate its value since I have wasted quite a lot of photos on my DSLR as I cannot hold the camera still enough while the shutter has been opened.

Hopefully Canon starts making the A590IS series which now sell for more than $200. In the meantime Canon A1100IS is your answer to better photos.

4 Stars Canon camera
Great price. It did not arrive in time for the birthday but I should have changed the shipping rate!

4 Stars Great Camera….Great Price
I’ve just had this camera for about 1 month and so far, so good. No problems, easy to use & excellent picture quality !!!!!

3 Stars Worked great till it died.
I looked all over for a good camera I could take paddleboarding and not worry about it getting wet if I fell in. Got some great pics the first two trips, but it died on the 3rd. Must be something with the seals on the camera. I was extra careful when opening and closing the hatches but it looks like water got in there. The door seals didn’t ever quite feel 100% closed to me, so I’m guessing that’s where the water got in.

Canon has always had great customer service, so other than the pain of returning it, it’s no biggie.

I think I’d go with one of those hard plastic housings for my older point n shoot instead. Those things never leak, but are a bit bulkier and UGLY.

5 Stars Very pleased with my purchase
Initially I was hesitant to purchase this camera because of the bad reviews on the shape and size of the camera. I have to say I’m glad I went ahead and purchased it. By far, it has the best features compared to all other waterproof cameras. I’m not in love with the shape of the camera (it’s submarine looking)however, I can’t commplain when it comes to the functionalities and features. Overall, I am happy with this product. I bought it specifically for my trip to Jamaica and I was quite pleased with its performance. I would however recommend that you buy one of those plastic covers to protect the screen. I already scratched mine =(.

5 Stars easy to use
have had several other canons so I felt quite comfortable picking up this camera and starting to use it. A little bulky for my pocket but really not bad as the last camera I had was just as big (had bigger camera to get larger zoom). I love not having to feel like I have to keep this camera wrapped in foam in my purse- I am rough on things and that is why I got this camera, and so far I love it though really haven’t had it that long.

1 Star fisherprice enters the waterproof camera scene
Felt like a beer can in my pocket and looked like fisher price designed this camera for a 3yr old.Sorry folks, this is not ergonomically designed is any way shape or form. Images were mediocre at best. Actual use was very simple because… IT HAS NO FEATURES! Point and hope at its best. Like a relic from a time capsule when compared to most other cameras on the market. But in all fairness, sometimes simple people need simple cameras. And rather than cursing the darkness, I’ll light a flame, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS1 is amazing.

Nikon D5000 12 3 MP DX Digital SLR Camera with 18 55mm f 3 5 5 6G VR Lens and 2 7 inch Vari angle LCD

Nikon D5000 12 3 MP DX Digital SLR Camera with 18 55mm f 3 5 5 6G VR Lens and 2 7 inch Vari angle LCD

A remarkable blend of simplicity and highly advanced D-SLR capabilities, the compact and powerful D5000 offers breathtaking 12.3-megapixel image quality, along with a flexible, Vari-angle, Live View monitor for fresh picture-taking perspectives. Nikon’s EXPEED image processing further enhances performance, contributing to split-second shutter response and continuous shooting at up to 4 frames-per-second to capture fast action and precise moments perfectly.

1 Star Serious reliability problems
When I got this camera, I was thrilled. It was light, easy to use, and took great pictures. I missed the top LCD that my D70 had, but it was mostly great.

Just recently, after about six months of ownership, but only maybe 20 or 30 days of use, the camera broke. Well, not broke exactly. It still takes pictures, but the mirror seems to be locked up or something. When you look through the viewfinder, you see what looks like a focusing screen with the blurry out of focus image and several focus points clear. It takes clear pictures, but is unuseable because you basically can’t see what you’re pointing at.

I discovered this problem the day before a three week trip to Australia. My local camera guy says this is a common problem with the D3000 and D5000.

I live overseas. I can’t bring back the camera. I’ll have it repaired when I get a chance to return it in the U.S. (this warranty is not international).

But the damage is done. I won’t be buying another Nikon. I’d only bought this camera over the Canon d500 (Ti1) because of my previous investment in lenses, etc. (turns out you can’t use lenses from the D70 in auto-focus anyway).

When I get my camera repaired, I’ll use it and probably take reasonable pictures with it until it possibly breaks again. But I won’t be investing in any more lenses, etc. My next camera will be a Canon.

5 Stars AWESOME DSLR!!!!!! GET YOUR MONEYS WORTH!
I was looking at the Canon T1i and this. I ended up buying the D5000 because I heard image quality was better. This camera is much cheaper than the T1i by like 70-80$. That’s great if your on a budget! The video is pretty good for 720p but the mic is bad, cause it does mono audio, which sounds horrible. I don’t know why they didn’t add on a external mic jack. Video to me was just the extra, also theirs no continuous focus during video recording mode. I really like the vari-angle screen, its very useful and fun to play with when taking self portraits. Also the 4 frames per second is great when taking action shots. Overall I really like the D5000, it’s a great camera for 1st time DSLR owner and I think you will definately love it!

5 Stars Better than I had expected!
There are many features to what this camera can do, and I was a little hesitant when I started to read all of the reviews on Amazon about this camera. I stepped away from Amazon.com and started going through what real professionals thought about this camera. I started at [...]. This website goes through each of the cameras settings, gives you an in-depth detail of the camera, what the Pros & Cons are, how to use it, what type of pictures it can take, compares it to other cameras and so much more. This website really helped me decide because reading some of these reviews on Amazon.com scared me quite a bit.

After I got the camera I was playing with it for hours trying to figure out if I could recreate some of the issues these people had. I found an issue that I read earlier in one of these postings about the Autofocus feature turned off. There is actually a setting that I personally changed that affected the camera’s autofocus even when the AF was switched to on, on my lens. After reading the book I had it fixed in just a couple of seconds!

I then compared the camera to a Cannon RebelXLT that I had purchased a couple of years ago. I know the technology has changed, but when I was on the hunt for a new digital camera I wanted to look at all angles of brands. One of the first things I liked compared to the Cannon was the view finder. I’m not too sure why but my eyes always had a hard time trying to Manual Focus with the Cannon. With the Nikon the viewfinder is tinted slightly and that is just enough tint for my eyes to recognize what is focused and what isn’t. Not only did the Nikon beat the Cannon in the focusing arena but more so in photography studio shooting as well. I work for a company that manufactures aftermarket parts for the Hot Rod & Street Rod Industry. I have been using the old Cannon for all of my shots until I received my Nikon. I took one shot of our products with both cameras and the Nikon by far and hands down took a better more clearer picture.

I am very pleased with my purchase and I can’t wait to try all of the other lenses that are made for this camera. If your having issues with your camera my best advice is to read the book and possibly purchase another book about the camera so you can learn the in’s and out’s of what this Nikon D5000 is capable of.

1 Star $800 down the drain. Nikon does a switcheroo to customers
If you buy your Nikon online you may not be able to have it serviced. They may tell you it is ‘grey market’ and not honor the warranty. I always thought grey market meant that you bought it off the back of someone’s truck or in some other sort of illegal way. NOT SO! If you buy your Nikon online, you have no way of knowing where the seller purchased the camera. If they purchased it outside the US (for example, from a Japanese wholesaler with lower prices than in the US which is the case) their profit is greater/camera cost is lower to them. However NIKON will NOT service that camera for you! They call them “Grey market”. Nikon obviously makes less money on these cameras and won’t service them. My husband paid $799 for my camera and it is money lost.

It gets worse…I sent my “grey market” camera in for repair and not only did they call it grey market, they switched it with another customer’s “Sigma” branded cheap product and sent it to me. Can you believe that?? They must not have an investory control system and someone else has my Nikon camera. 6 months into this, I have sent them the serial number, pictures of the box, original receipt, etc. and they keep saying my camera was a different brand (Sigma, which I had never even heard of). I got someone else’s ugly, cheap camera sent to me by Nikon and they won’t take responsibility for it.

I suggest you take a look at comments about Cannon and how they stand behind their products. Lots of people onlne/blogs, etc. are complaining that Nikon does not.

Be careful when making such a significant investment. This is criminal behavior on Nikon’s part. And we thought Wall Street was a problem???

I never got my camera back from Nikon and they won’t respond to my repeated requests to have it returned to me! $800 down the drain! If you go online you will see tons of complaints about the Nikon service. Nikon seems to make good products, but does not stand behind them whatsoever.

5 Stars Better than I hoped!
I did a ton of research before buying this camera, and I am really happy I did. It does everything really well. It takes beautiful still photos and great video. Video is manual focus only. Some people consider that to be a disadvantage, but feel that is a big advantage if you want interesting video. Once you get the hang of the focus, it can be really exciting to control focus, and depth of field. I highly recommend a video light for this camera if you are interested in using video, in anything but direct sunlight. The in-camera retouching features are quite fun, and build quality of the camera is good. The articulating live view is quite handy for odd angle compositions. Great Camera!!

Canon PowerShot SD780IS 12 1 MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 2 5 inch LCD Silver

It may be the slimmest Digital ELPH Canon has ever created, but the impact couldn’t be bigger. The PowerShot SD780 IS Digital ELPH captivates the senses with bold saturated colors and a daringly original design that matches the intensity of Canon’s most innovative camera technology. Even when picture-taking conditions seem pretty unforgiving, you’ve got Canon on your side. So the shots you used to miss are the images you’ll now be sharing, and the movies you never took before will be HD unforgettable.

4 Stars Great camera, flimsy battery/sd card cover
I bought the camera for its portability (and it was on sale too at $169). I also own a DSLR but for everyday photos I’d rather carry one that fits in my pocket. Excellent picture quality. I set mine to Program mode, My Colors to Vivid, and Auto-ISO (default). Crappy shots at high ISOs but you don’t expect much from a compact. That’s what DSLRs are for. Fast focusing and accurate most of the time. I will give this camera 5 stars if not for a flimsy battery cover. It will break easily if you’re not extra careful.

5 Stars Everything and more
I had researched several cameras before making this purchase. I typically take pictures with a Nikon D50, but I wanted a point-and-shoot that I could carry around more easily but still take decent pictures. This camera has not disappointed me. It’s tiny but incredibly sturdy, and takes excellent quality pictures. In addition, I had video recorded a Christmas concert, and when I played it on my computer I expanded the video to “full-screen” and the image did not become grainy at all. I love this camera. It’s an absolute steal for this price.

4 Stars wow camera
I love that it is portable. I am kinda bummed there is not an action setting. The zoom capability is awesome. I am still experimenting with setting my own settings. Because it is small it is hard to keep it steady but with practice it has worked out. All around a great camera.

5 Stars Great Camera – Cute, functional, easy to use
This is the dream camera – easy to use, so small/tiny to carry around, and great quality. Price is reasonable!

2 Stars Disappointed
Records decent HD in Quicktime .MOV format – not easy for Windows PC users. Cannot stream to PS3 or XBox360. Picture quality on Auto is terrible for a 12MP camera – probably cause the lens is small. My 8yr old 4MP canon has much better quality pics.

p.s Amazon doesn’t mention the format HD movies are taken in – this is not good. Cannot buy cameras from Amazon.

2 Stars Not easy for mom to use, buttons terrible.
I expected the latest Canon powershot for around $200 to OFCOURSE AUTOmatically be awesome. I will not give a long review. About functionality and ease of use- if you enjoy pressing buttons only to have another function take over instead, buy this camera. If you enjoy only being able to use your fingernails to select, a battery door that will surely snap off sooner than later, and pictures that are not as sharp as the previous models, then go ahead. Ofcourse I have been able to take some good shots with the legendary Canon name, but I am very upset that someone bought this for my Mom. She refuses to use it based on hours of frustration with buttons that were cheaply designed for profit, not the true enjoyment of the user. The next powershot will probably be great, you just never know.

4 Stars Love my little green camera!!!
This is the second Canon camera I’ve owned. I just gave my Canon SD750 to my son so he can take pictures of his carpentry work. I needed a camera with more MPG’s to photograph my Jewelry for my new website. I just love the ease of getting good quality pictures that show the beauty of the Swarovski crystals I make my jewelry with. Great sparkle quality!!!!!

My camera is always close at hand, you never know when something beautiful will catch your eye, out comes my Canon. Point and voila!! a great picture.

4 Stars Great Camera at Great Price
Pros

1. very light weight, small but easy to handle, menu easy to manage/navigate

2. improved quality pic taking. auto adjust to different environment/lighting, auto adjust to shaky hand. wide screen option is provided.

3. good looking design, multicolor, i got a green color cam to join Obama’s “Green xyz” rah rah.

4. good pricing. $149. cheaper than my AS Powershot

Cons

1. battery. need to walk around with a battery charger. inconvenient. nice if rechargeable from PC’s USB port.

2. memory. camera comes without memory card, fortunately, i can swap the card from my other PowerShot cam.

3. cam pouch. nice if a small cloth pouch is provided.

overall, great price for a great camera.

5 Stars Great little camera
This is our second (or third?) small digital camera. The first couple were first generation models with minimum features and resolution. Then we started using big DSLRs. I expected this ‘little camera’ to have minimal quality, but I was wrong. This camera approaches the DSLRs in both features and image quality. I was especially impressed with the video it took. The only negative I’ve seen is that when you zoom in at some point it switches over to ‘digital zoom’ and the quality drops dramatically. This can be turned off, so it’s really not a problem, just something to be aware of. My wife was looking for a small camera she could have with us when the DSLR was too big and this little guy more than fills the bill.

5 Stars For most people
This camera is not your average camera. I must confess I had Canon cameras ever since I started purchasing digital cameras. Therefore I might be bias by giving an opinion without testing the others out there. Although, I did at one point own a Casio Slim camera and was satisfied. However, the picture quality and the features that a Canon offers I must say beats the rest by far.

Good luck and happy snapping.
