5 Stars Love it!
I received this camera out of the blue as a Christmas/Graduation gift. I had just received a Canon Powershot in September and loved that camera, but when I got this one. WOW….JUST WOW.

I absolutely love this camera, and I am so happy I finally own a DLSR. I love being able to have more control over images, holding this camera feels natural, and I like that you can buy accessories and lenses for this versus your regular point and shoot digital cameras. For a first DLSR, I highly recommend this.

The only thing I wish it had was a preview feature like you have on point and shoots (I’m not sure what you’d call that feature but you can see your image through the eyepiece and on the screen before you take it). Otherwise, I love it and am having a fun time taking pictures with it and learning all the other features it has!

5 Stars good for beginners to DSLR’S
I really like this camera for learning photography, I’ve taken some really great shots that I’m proud of and I enjoy the learning process. This camera is great for nature photos too.

5 Stars Love my new camera!
I am by no means a professional but when I wanted my first DSLR camera I did a lot of research and ended up making the D40 my choice. My original choice was first the D80, then I changed to the D200, but when my husband thought the prices were too much for a toy, I reevaluated and chose the D40 for it’s performance and price. I mainly used [...] as my research site, and he was a great help. I have always used Canon, but when I decided on a DSLR, I wanted Nikon. I don’t feel like the transition was too hard- especially since this was my first SLR. It takes a bit of time to learn and patience to get your manual settings right, but when you need a quick fix, the “P”(program) setting works great. For a first time SLR, I think this was a great choice, and the lens that comes with the kit is great.

5 Stars Perfect Camera for all situations
This camera is just great. If you are not a pro, and you want a high quality, inexpensive camera, then this DSLR is for you.

I bought this camera about 2 months ago. I just love it. It is easy to carry everywhere, and takes great pictures. You do not need a moving screen at the back of the camera. You don’t need to take video – as the shutter will open up and allow all the dust get on your sensor!!!!!!!

If you think you need all the buttons of a D300 camera, then you need a D300. Although the d40 menue includes the majority of the features of more expensive camera, these might not be accesible by pushing a button like on D300/D90… but have to go two steps into the menu…

For this reason, I am not going to take any points off… because D40 has its own quality, by keeping it easier to use… and easy to access… and easy to carry around…

Great Product!!! I am using the nikon lenses: 18-55mm, 35mm f/1.8, and 70-300mm.

4 Stars Nice simple little camera
This is a nice simple little starter camera. Decent controls. For about $400 with the lens, I think it’s a great deal. 6MP is more than sufficient. Biggest drawback is the limited number of Nikon lens it can use. But love the fact that it can sync flash at even 1/1000s!

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars What a difference!
Wow, totally dig this flash! After using the built in flash since owning my D40 (& not being happy with the results alot of times!) for 2 yrs, this is so refreshing & inspiring! I saw reviews on amazon with photos of what this flash does & it’s totally delivered :) Beautiful results from bouncing the flash off the ceiling. This was one big easy step in furthering my photog hobby skills!

4 Stars Fantastic lighting upgrade
I have have been using this unit for 2 weeks and am impressed with the improvement offered with indirect light bouncing off nearby surfaces vs the on-board unit. The SB-400′s capability to aim the flash in multiple angles is not thoroughly detailed in store or official documentation when it is easily its greatest feature. I sometimes wish I whent with a flash with a bit more horsepower and twist aim, but I figured learning the art was more important than the gadget. Overall a simple no frills great improvement from my D5000′s on board flash.

5 Stars For users with a Nikon with ittl only “D40″
This add-on flash is compact and works flawlessly on Nikon camera with iTTl systems. Using the built-in camera flash will consume your cameras’ battery life a lot faster this possible causing you to lose that perfect moment. There are huge benefits of bounce over compared to the direct flash on the Nikon model and body you own, maybe overwhelming. This unit gets great reviews for its size and its multi angel bounce, this unit will bounce off high ceilings and distant walls but it’s great for many occasions and engagements.

Overall by using this unit instead of the built-in flash of one’s camera, you will get more shots from the camera since its power source is two independent AA batteries and not the camera. It’s compact it’s great for its size ability and price.

3 Stars Not as good as the SB-600
I got this to go with my Nikon D40. It is an improvement from the built-in flash for sure, but not as good and versatile as the Nikon SB-600 Speedlight Flash for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras. I ended up returning this one and buying the SB-600 instead.

Pros for the SB-400 are size and price – best for portability. It is definitely an improvement over the built-in flash for light quality and ceiling bounce.

Biggest weakness is that I can’t use it for portrait photography bouncing off the ceiling. Please see review of Stroboframe Press-T Flash Rotating Bracket for details.

5 Stars Travel Light
While not as versatile as the more expensive and featured Nikon flashes, it does the job while remaining small enough to throw in the camera bag for small events, parties, day trips, etc.

Nikon CF DC2 Semi soft Cast for Nikon D5000 Digital SLR Camera

Nikon CF DC2 Semi soft Cast for Nikon D5000 Digital SLR Camera

Semi Soft Carrying Case for D5000

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars nice case
very easy to take on and off camera, seems to offer excellent protection, like the clean simple design

4 Stars Good Enough
I’ve had my Nikon D-5000 for a couple of months now and use this case pretty much exclusively. My original Nikon 35mm film camera (for those old enough to remember film) case used the tripod mount to secure the case to the camera. As the D5000 has the screen the old approach does not work. So, there is a small strap that goes around the neck strap, and you pull the entire case off to shoot and it sort of dangles there. After taking a couple of pictures, you have to pull the case back around the camera (and often the right side sort of folds in and you have to try again). If I’m going to be taking more than a few shots, like at the zoo, I leave the case off completely. So, not the most convenient case, but at the same time not sure how you would improve it. It provides a little protection for dust and bumping and scratches. It is worth buying but can’t rave over it.

4 Stars Nikon D-5000 Case
A must for your D-5000 camera. A little bit of added protection when traveling to and from shoots. This one piece case does not attach to the camera but encases it and has a Velcro closure for easy access to the camera. The case can be removed for camera use or dangled from the camera strap if you do not have a place to put it while capturing a memory. This could potentially get in the way but I have not experienced this yet.

Nikon EN EL3e Rechargeable Li Ion Battery for D200 D300 D700 and D80 Digital SLR Cameras Part 25334

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Nikon EN-EL3e Battery Purchase
I’m completely satisfied with every aspect of this transaction and product quality. The price can’t be beat for genuine Nikon EN-EL3e batteries. The ordering process was straight forward, response and delivery was prompt and accurate. I would purchase from this merchant again and gladly refer my friends here as well. This was a total thumbs up experience. Many thanks for zero frustration! :)

5 Stars Nikon Quality
I will only use Nikon batteries in my cameras. I have tried the bargain brands but was not impressed with the quality of the batteries. In my experience, Nikon batteries will outlast the bargain brands charge-for-charge and in total lifespan. I purchased several cheaper batteries for a long trip to Africa, and a single Nikon battery lasted longer than two of the other brands. I will not repeat my mistake. Nikon batteries are more expensive than the alternatives, but in the end the expense is justified by solid performance.

5 Stars It does what its supposed to
I bought this battery as a back up for my D70s. Although my camera cannot take advantage of all this battery offers, it out performs the original battery. I haven’t had any problems with it. It does what it is supposed to without any complications. That, to me, is a great thing!

4 Stars Nikon EN-EL3e Rechargeable Li-ion Battery
I purchased a second Nikon battery for backup since my off-brand battery did not last as long in my D-80 Nikon camera, even though the off-brand battery was rated at higher power. I gave it 4 stars since the Nikon battery had a lower power rating than the off-brands, even though it worked great.Nikon D80 10.2MP Digital SLR Camera (Body only)

5 Stars Good, original product
Got this from Electronics Expo. Received it as promised, sealed, and working. I know there are cheaper substitutes out there but since I already have one from my d90, I figured I just needed one more.

5 Stars Shipping!!!
I can’t rate the camera yet (I’ll add to this later) because the box just arrived, so this review is just for Amazon. I had it sent Two Day Shipping, and it showed up at my door less than 24 hours later!!! Wow.

5 Stars Was not expecting so much!!
I was looking for a simple camera not too expensive just to have pics of birthday parties and trips. found a deal but this camera is way better thatn i thought for its price. starting with the size…it feels very confortable in the hand and is small.

picture quality is incredible for a point and shot digital camera, in 2 days using it i’ve taken pics that seem like taken with profesional cameras…it works incredibly well in the night with no flash and captures true colors with no flash as well (personaly i dont like using flash)

i works good in auto mode you feel like a pro taking pics. havent tried face detection or smile detection that much bec im not interested in those features so much.

usd cable is not the standar but i can use the sd cards to my laptop if have no cable

the start is not that fast but is compensated with the quickly shootting..

the anti shaking and vibration reduction works fine.

in conclusion my only complaint would be with the start time its about 4 seconds, all other features are just the best!! i would recomend this camera !

5 Stars Great camera and very fast shipping
I put two day shipping on the camera and it arrived in only one day! That alone made me happy. I have only had the camera for about a day and have only had a few hours to play around with it but so far I have no complaints. There are no problems with it and it was secure in the box it was shipped in. The one thing I haven’t done yet is use the Nikon software that came with the camera. I did install it but didn’t transfer the picture I took to my PC yet. It had no problems installing on Windows 7 64-bit though.

5 Stars Typical Nikon Quality
I replaced a Canon ELPH SD700 with this camera. The Nikon does not have the focus and lighting problems associated with Canon. I also like using the date imprint on prints and Nikon allows you to include this option at any resolution. Using maximum resolution at ASA 1600 is beyond most digital cameras.

5 Stars Travel perfect………..
I got my Nikon Coolpix two days before leaving for a two week trip to Thailand. My son-in-law actually advised me to get this camera for it’s simplicity and easy to use qualities. As usual,I am always late in getting organized. I ordered the camera from Amazon and thought there would be no way I’d get the camera before I left. It arrived in plenty of time. I had plenty of time on the plane to ‘study’ the instructions. Finally, in Bangkok and ready to shot pictures.

I had a blast on the trip and a ball using my new Nikon. It is so easy to use and takes great pictures. I have a wonderful pictoral history of my Thailand trip. I have clear, beautiful pictures of elephants and a cyrstal clear photos of ants marching one by one on top of a ledge. What fun. I’m not technical genius when it comes to new gadgets, but this Nikon turned me into a Ansel Adams, in my mind.

Come over I’ll show you the big elephants and the tiny ants.
