5 Stars A must have
I almost always get detailed training session from the likes Aperture 1.1 Essential Training website and books. However since i just bought the Nikon D5000 12.3 MP DX Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR Lens and 2.7-inch Vari-angle LCD i have been just terrified with it! i mean i do have a tech enthusiasm but cameras are really not my thing (more on [...] ) But alas i did chance it went on an amazing self discovery mode in Dubai this past holidays season and just went nuts with 800 Pictures!

I had just watched this yesterday and i am like i wish i had this before hand! I did fiddle with the camera on my own but this sort of takes you by the hand and shows you quickly what you need to do without any hesitation. If your considering the [ASIN:B00267S7TQ Nikon D5000 12.3 MP DX Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR Lens and 2.7-inch Vari-angle LCD]] OR ANY other DSLR camera, do get this DVD. Its fast friendly and the presenter really is a master of story telling! thats what was missing from my timid observations as a user.

Just get this to learn about photography and not be intimated by more advanced material like the [...] material, get this DVD! You will have fun.

5 Stars Develops a Good Basic Understanding
I bought this DVD with my D5000. This DVD gives a good visual explanation and demonstration of many, but not all of the features of the D5000 and what it is capable of. If you’re new or newer to DSLRs, you will enjoy this DVD. It is far too basic for the more experienced photographer. It takes you from setup to a good basic explanation of the different shooting modes and demonstrates how to use them. This DVD is not a replacement for the manual that came with the camera. What it will do is remove some of the apprehension of using a DSLR and leave you feeling like you have some idea how to use it and take “good” pictures in different situations. Beginners might even watch it more than once. I think this DVD does a good job for its intended audience – new to newer DSLR users who purchase the D5000. I think even intermediate users may learn a little, though some of the content will be somewhat basic for that level of experience.

4 Stars Very good start
I am not new to digital photography nor am I new to SLR photography but I am new to digital SLR photography. This DVD is a nice start on using the Nikon D5000. The DVD gets you using the camera and then begin to flesh the incredible features. I highly recommend it.

5 Stars Great Purchase for Beginners or Intermediate Level Photographers
There is plenty of learning material on the Nikon D5000 in this Nikon School DVD. The instructor is patient, speaks clearly, comes across being very friendly and informative, and you can see his passion for photography by the way he talks about photography. At first, I thought I saw this movie and paid for a DVD which was a free video download from the Nikon website. The first couple of scenes are free on the Nikon website, the rest of the DVD is not. Even the free scenes have extended footage on the DVD only. I would recommend to watch the movie several times to really absorb the material – I could feel my brain getting full about half-way through the video and decided to split it up over two days and to give myself a chance to practice what I saw. There are plenty of practical examples in the video too, once you watch the entire video, you can just skip to the section you care to watch again through the menu. This video has become a useful reference for me.

5 Stars An excellent tutorial on digitsal photography
Although this cd is for the Nikon D5000, it is an excellent tutorial on digital photography in general.

Nikon 105mm f 2 8G ED IF AF S VR Micro Nikkor Lens

no comments

Nikon 105mm f 2 8G ED IF AF S VR Micro Nikkor Lens

The Nikon 2160 105mm f2.8G ED-IF AF-S VR Micro-Nikkor Lens is the world’s first macro lens featuring Nikon’s exclusive Silent Wave Motor and Vibration Reduction. Designed for close-up and macro photography, this camera lens is versatile enough for virtually any photographic situation.

This Nikon 105 millimeter lens features Nikon’s new VR II vibration reduction technology, which allows photographers to shoot hand-held shots at up to four shutter speeds slower than would otherwise be possible, providing sharper images in general and in close-up photography. This lens also features a high-resolution and high optical performance, with a Nano-Crystal coat and ED glass elements that enhance overall image quality by further reducing flare and chromatic aberrations, and contributing to improved color, contrast and clarity. Constructed with an f2.8 lens, this unit includes an internal focus, which provides fast and quiet auto-focusing without changing the length of the lens, retaining the subject’s working distance through the focus range. This lens has a non-rotating front design that is convenient for use with circular polarizing filters and the R1C1 wireless close-up Speedlight system. Specifically engineered for both Nikon digital and 35mm SLR cameras, the Nikon ED-IF AF-S VR Micro-Nikkor lens helps ensure high quality and high performance for all photographers, from amateurs to professionals, and includes front and rear lens caps, an HB-38 bayonet lens hood, and a CL-1020 flexible lens pouch. The 2160 weighs 27.9 ounces and measures 3.3 x 4.5 inches (diameter x depth).

What’s in the Box
The 105mm f2.8 ED-IF AF-S VR lens, 62mm snap-on front lens cap (LC-62), rear lens cap (LF-1), bayonet hood (HB-38), and flexible lens pouch (CL-1020).

User Ratings and Reviews

4 Stars The Nikon 105mm Micro-Nikkor
The lens performs as advertised. When used within the suggested parameters the results are great. Not the silver bullet for every situation, but excellent for what it was designed for. The user must become proficient on how to take into account all the attributes of an excellent image. The lens cannot compensate if the lighting, focus, etc. are not optimum. The lens reproduces what it “sees”; no more no less.

5 Stars More than a macro-lens
This is not only a superb macro lens (though the offerings by Zeiss and Leitz are reputed even sharper, and more expensive) but it makes a very good all round 105 mm lens thanks to the vibration reduction. I’ve used this to make many a discreet shot at a wedding with my D300 and I didn’t have to use a tripod, even in dim light. I have also used it to take shots of architectural details in dim light.

The contrast and the bokeh are excellent.

I should add that since its focusing range is so long (from a few centimeters to infinity) this lens is more likely to hunt when autofocusing than a standard 105mm lens, so it might not be the best lens for action shots. You need to be a little patient when using the autofocus.

In many macro situations you should turn the autofocusing off. I’ll let you be the judge.

As for the VR you should definitely turn it off if you are using a tripod: you’ll be wearing the mechanism out less and often the VR makes things worse.

As to sharpness the more formal tests whether on slrgear, popphoto, photozone or the French magazine Chasseur d’Images say it all.

5 Stars Works like a charm
I upgraded from the older Nikon 60mm macro and can see the difference in image quality in the viewfinder. What I didn’t expect was the richness of the colors in the unprocessed frames. This lens shines.

4 Stars Wanted to *love* this lens, but…
I’ll start this review with the following caveats:

1) I rented this lens for a weekend, and probably put 150-200 shots through it. I don’t own it.

2) I don’t spend a lot of time doing macro work, so my lack of skills there (assuming there are some skills specific to macro work) may have gotten in the way of getting full enjoyment out of the lens.

3) I used the lens on a Nikon D300 body, which has its limitations in autofocus (that is, if it gets confused, it sometimes won’t even “hunt”, it will just not do anything when half-pressing the shutter release button).

This isn’t my first experience with fast, pro-quality glass, so my experience won’t be the same as some others here who might be just upgrading from a kit lens (which are nice for the price, but just can’t compare, IMHO). I rented the lens to try it out at a wedding and around the house/yard, and I *really* wanted to fall in love with the lens, but I just didn’t. Yes, it’s got great construction, great image quality, VR, etc.

All that said, I recommend spending $30 to rent this for a weekend and see if it does what you want, before devoting nine hundred bucks to it. I’m happier with my 80-200mm (non-VR) 2.8 lens that I bought for a bit less. It doesn’t do macro, but I’m also not stuck (as I was during the wedding this past weekend) with having a single-focal-length lens on my camera at the wrong time (yes, my mistake). I’m no stranger to prime lenses, and find them to be excellent for image quality (this one being no exception).

What didn’t I like? Two things: 1) focal length is a bit long (for my taste) for use on a DX-sensor camera — I might try the 60mm — at least for what I was using it for; 2) auto-focus was almost unusable in many circumstances — though I understand that many macro/micro photographers use manual focus anyway. Since I already have fast glass that encompasses this focal length, I would only want it for macro work, and I can get a really nice (shorter) manual focus lens for a fraction of the price (only a third to half for a new 60mm AF-D, and less than a tenth for a fully manual older (used) 55mm f/3.5).

So I’m not *not* recommending this lens (I gave it 4 stars, after all), just STRONGLY suggesting you rent one first.

5 Stars Wow!
If you want to go macro, this the lens for nikon and nikon mount cameras.

I do most of my shooting hand held and I have no complaints. I am happy!

5 Stars Love it!
I received this camera out of the blue as a Christmas/Graduation gift. I had just received a Canon Powershot in September and loved that camera, but when I got this one. WOW….JUST WOW.

I absolutely love this camera, and I am so happy I finally own a DLSR. I love being able to have more control over images, holding this camera feels natural, and I like that you can buy accessories and lenses for this versus your regular point and shoot digital cameras. For a first DLSR, I highly recommend this.

The only thing I wish it had was a preview feature like you have on point and shoots (I’m not sure what you’d call that feature but you can see your image through the eyepiece and on the screen before you take it). Otherwise, I love it and am having a fun time taking pictures with it and learning all the other features it has!

5 Stars good for beginners to DSLR’S
I really like this camera for learning photography, I’ve taken some really great shots that I’m proud of and I enjoy the learning process. This camera is great for nature photos too.

5 Stars Love my new camera!
I am by no means a professional but when I wanted my first DSLR camera I did a lot of research and ended up making the D40 my choice. My original choice was first the D80, then I changed to the D200, but when my husband thought the prices were too much for a toy, I reevaluated and chose the D40 for it’s performance and price. I mainly used [...] as my research site, and he was a great help. I have always used Canon, but when I decided on a DSLR, I wanted Nikon. I don’t feel like the transition was too hard- especially since this was my first SLR. It takes a bit of time to learn and patience to get your manual settings right, but when you need a quick fix, the “P”(program) setting works great. For a first time SLR, I think this was a great choice, and the lens that comes with the kit is great.

5 Stars Perfect Camera for all situations
This camera is just great. If you are not a pro, and you want a high quality, inexpensive camera, then this DSLR is for you.

I bought this camera about 2 months ago. I just love it. It is easy to carry everywhere, and takes great pictures. You do not need a moving screen at the back of the camera. You don’t need to take video – as the shutter will open up and allow all the dust get on your sensor!!!!!!!

If you think you need all the buttons of a D300 camera, then you need a D300. Although the d40 menue includes the majority of the features of more expensive camera, these might not be accesible by pushing a button like on D300/D90… but have to go two steps into the menu…

For this reason, I am not going to take any points off… because D40 has its own quality, by keeping it easier to use… and easy to access… and easy to carry around…

Great Product!!! I am using the nikon lenses: 18-55mm, 35mm f/1.8, and 70-300mm.

4 Stars Nice simple little camera
This is a nice simple little starter camera. Decent controls. For about $400 with the lens, I think it’s a great deal. 6MP is more than sufficient. Biggest drawback is the limited number of Nikon lens it can use. But love the fact that it can sync flash at even 1/1000s!

5 Stars A good buy
Bought this to use with my D90. I also have a wireless, but sometime it does not work. This wired remote, however, never failed me. It is compact and light and reasonably price. It works perfectly with my D90.

5 Stars Love that Nikon Product!
The product was perfect for my needs. Received exactly what mentioned on the product description. Excellent service and delivery, really deserves a 5-STAR rating. Keep up the good works.

4 Stars Nikon Remote Release Cord MCDC2
Great remote for Nikon D5000. Better than the wireless version.

Adorama Remote Release Cord for the Nikon D90/D5000 Digital SLR Cameras, 3 Feet Long (MC-DC2)

5 Stars Bought it for my D90
Fantastic shutter release for Long exposure! I use it with my Nikon D90. Not much to say, but works as it should.

5 Stars Great product
Great item for taking pictures. I took some excellent delayed shutter photos with my D90 and this. I couldn’t have done it without this, but I should point out that I also couldn’t have done without my D90 either. This shutter release is simple to use in every way and light to carry. I have even used it for some covert pictures that I wanted to take when I didn’t want people to see me handling my camera.

Overall, great product, worth the money and really the best way to take really delayed shuttered pictures. Stop reading now and buy it!

…please don’t tell me you’re still reading this, if so, start over at the beginning.
