User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Great Lens For the Price
I do a lot of photo editing with the pen tool and wanted a lens that had less chromatic aberration than my kit zoom. I am very satisfied with results and the speed. I had initially seen a review of this lens on the Photoshop User website. If you are looking for a prime lens and are on a tight budget this bears looking at. I am shooting with a D80.

5 Stars A must have lens!!!
This lens is a must have. It will instantly make you a better photographer. I’ve used this lens on all holiday events inside the house and all pictures are perfect. It’s great for low light photography, portraits and it also produces a nice bokeh. This lens has always been in my camera ever since I had it. Well worth the money. So far I’m very satisfied with this purchase.

5 Stars As Advertised
Lightweight and fast, this lens works beautifully with my D40. The autofocus is accurate, but the ease of manual override is a nice advantage. If you’re thinking about buying one, you should.

5 Stars Lovely fist full of prime lens
As others have noted, while it’s mostly plastic, it’s got a heft to it that says serious lens. This is my lens of choice whenever I can fit the subject into its field of view. I love the low-light ability and the sharpness of the resulting photos. Hard to beat the price, either.

5 Stars Sharp and fast lens!
I use this lens far more than I thought I would. It is sharp across its entire f-stop spectrum, and very sharp from f/2.0 through f/11. No discernible chromatic aberration. An ideal indoor / low light lens.

4 Stars Nice snug, easily portable holster style case for compact DSLR
This is a very convenient bag for compact DSLRs. It like the holster style fit. I use it for an Olympus E420, which is a bit smaller than typical DSLRs. As a result, I can actually fit a standard zoom (Olympus 14-54mm, which is actually a bit larger than the standard kit zooms like Canon 18-55) along with the 25mm pancake prime lens. I inserted a padded divider so that the lenses aren’t banging into each other. The pockets provide room for a lens cloth, lens pen/brush, extra card, and extra battery.

I would have given it five stars except for a couple shortcomings compared to another similarly sized and priced Lowepro bag I bought several years ago:

- The fabric quality seems a bit cheaper.

- I wish there were more pockets and that they were more spacious, as on the other Lowepro bag I mentioned. I think this could have been done without changing the dimensions of the main compartment and without much additional cost. On the other bag I mentioned, there are pockets on all sides of the exterior. In addition, the exterior pockets of the other bag were a stretchy neoprene, which is more useful than the stiff fabric of the single exterior pocket on this one. I know I’m nitpicking but I’m just a bit disappointed since these seem like easy fixes and the other bag was made by the same company after all.

5 Stars Snug fit for D90 w/ 18-105mm lens
Perfect snug fit for my Nikon D90 with 18-105mm lens. I generally prefer to let the shoulder strap hang out of the bag.

There are two storage ‘compartments’ – one on the inside top cover, with a flap, other on the back, without a flap.

4 Stars Nikon D3000 kit
Nice case, nice quality, but space only for camera and lens nothing more. I have Nikon D3000 + lens 18-55 Kit for this set case good.

4 Stars Good Case
I got this case for my Nikon D3000 and so far it has served me pretty well. the case isn’t too thick so its not amazing protection but its definitely good protection. the camera also fits a bit strangely in the case but it still works fine. Overall its nice and compact and I can usually fit it in my backpack with other stuff. Overall, I really like it.

5 Stars Really Nice Camera Holster!!!!
This camera holster has a cushioned interior to keep my camera and lens secured, a small pocket inside for a memory card, long strap so I can loop it over by body with a baby bijorn or loop it through my stoller, and it fits inside my small diaper bag and large satchel shoulder bag.

5 Stars Beyond Perfection
I purchased this 50mm f/1.8 prime lens when I bought my Nikon D90 DSLR. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, given that you “zoom with your feet” so to get the photo you want, you physically move to the spot necessary to frame the shot as desired. I absolutely adore this lens. Lightweight, small, produces precise, crisp photos and lovely bokeh. My family traveled across 4 countries in 3 weeks this summer and I brought the Nikon D90, the kit lens that came with the camera, and this lens. I wound up using the 50mm f/1.8 almost every day! I switched to the other lens only to take photos of large buildings that were fairly close to me for example (in other words, using the 50mm, I wouldn’t be able to get the entire building in the frame). My subjects include our garden, our kids, our dog, architecture, fabric. The Sony D90 with this lens captures indoor subjects with natural light unbelievably well. Good luck with this lens, you will be thrilled with it!

4 Stars 50mm 1.8D Nikkor AF
My favorite lens its picture quality and compact size.

In a DX camera you will be looking into a 75mm 1.8; You couldn’t find a better portrait lens!!

Build quality is below average. The lens barrel feels plasticky and flimsy – the “Made in China” tag seems to explain all.

Fortunately the picture quality seems pretty good.

At this price – this is a steal!!

5 Stars The Best Value Lens You Can Buy
There are no words to describe how much better my pictures got after using this lens

If you’re an amateur, and need a lens to focus on the subject and leave the rest of the photo slightly out of focus….you need this lens

the depth of field is great, low light shots are great, and for around 120 bucks, what’s not to love??

4 Stars Great lens for day to day usage
We were looking for a lens that would allow day to day pics with good quality. We bought this based one of our friends loving it. It does take getting used to (for the amateur like me) when you come from a lens that allows zooming. But the pics are great. We used it at a baptism and you get amazing shots. We use it on our D70s. The lens is small, light and perfect for day to day usages. I would recommend this lens as it is an excellent lens for the money it costs.

5 Stars Can’t get anything better
I would suggest that this is a must lens for everyone using an SLR camera. It is great for indoors as well as outdoors. Be ready to walk a lot with this lens because it does not have a zoom. f/1.8 gives a great depth of field as well as superior speed. I won’t suggest this if you do a lot of indoor photography and you have a APS-C sensor camera (for example D300,D-90,D-80,D-60 etc) because 50mm sometimes is too much zoom for indoor spaces.

To conclude: If you are interested in buying this lens… Do it right now.
